In 2019, co-head of our Japan Desk Karen Abraham was designated as the Malaysian Intellectual Property trainer for the Japanese Intellectual Property Association (JIPA), an association representing industries and users of the IP system with over 1,300 members in Japan. Karen was invited to conduct a series of lectures and trainings on the introduction to IP in Malaysia, IP in the ASEAN region, IP enforcement, IP statistics in Malaysia and patent protection in Malaysia to members of JIPA at the JIPA Kansai Office in Osaka on 30th September 2019.
In 2019, Karen Abraham also hosted a delegation from the Japanese Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) at our Shearn Delamore office in Kuala Lumpur. Shearn Delamore conducted a series of trainings for the visiting delegates on the legal landscape of copyright, trademarks, patents and industrial design in Malaysia. As part of the JIPA delegation’s visit to Kuala Lumpur, we also visited the IP legal team of Petronas at their offices where the Japanese delegation met the leaders of the Petronas legal department for a knowledge exchange meeting.
