The 2019 AIPPI World Congress this year was held in London between 15-18 September 2019. Two of our partners from our Intellectual Property Department, Karen Abraham and Ameet Kaur Purba, attended the congress and both actively participated in the same.
The Head of our Intellectual Property Department, Karen Abraham, was the moderator for the session IP in fashion: iconic products, influencers, greenwashing and design lifecycles, which featured panelists from big British brands Superdry, Doc Martens and New Balance.
The session discussed the new and developing IP issues faced by the fashion industry and what measures should be taken to protect iconic products that require greater protection due to the extensive counterfeiting and piracy that they are subjected to. The panel also discussed significant branding and marketing issues arising in the life cycle of a fashion product, such as the potential innovations and risks in a product’s supply chain, how geo-blocking will affect online retail platforms, the opportunities and challenges of working with influencers and, as more brands take on sustainable and environmentally-conscious images, how to draw the line between green marketing and greenwashing.
Our partner Ameet Kaur Purba, who is the immediate past president of the Malaysia National Group, was involved in the Young AIPPI Forum as an assistant facilitator on the session on Effective Communication to provide young members with the skills and assistance to fully benefit from their exposure at the AIPPI World Congress. She also contributed to the Study Question Consumer Survey Evidence on behalf of the Malaysia National Group.
