As one of the oldest law firms in Malaysia, Shearn Delamore & Co.’s vibrant history represents an unbroken chain of resilience over its existence. Here is a summary of the firm’s milestones spanning the last century.

Present - 2005

2014
Our Firm has again won the award for Malaysian Law Firm of the Year by the Chambers Asia Pacific 2014.

2012
Our Firm has won Chambers Asia Pacific Awards - Malaysian Law Firm of the Year for two consecutive years (2012 & 2011).

2011-2010
The introduction of 6 specialised practice group: Regulatory Compliance and Enforcement, Energy, Natural Resources and Green Technology, Environmental, Infrastructure and Projects, Competition Law and Antitrust and Personal Data Protection and Privacy Laws.

The establishment of Regional Desks which facilitate and attend to proposals and enquires emanating from the respective regions in the world.

2010
The appointment of Robert Lazar as our Managing Partner.

2010-2007
With Wong Sai Fong as Managing Partner, Shearn Delamore & Co. is one of the largest Malaysian firms providing a comprehensive range of legal advice and representation across a broad spectrum of commercial and business activities.

2008-2007
Dato’ Ahmad Johari bin Abdul Razak, Tee Joe Lei and Fiona Sequerah re-join the firm and are admitted to the partnership.

2005
Shearn Delamore & Co. celebrates its 100th Anniversary. Five assistants are admitted to the partnership.


2004 - 1982

2004-2003
Eight assistants are admitted to the partnership in 2003, two in 2004.

2002
Shearn Delamore & Co. hosts the World Law Group’s 30th Conference in Kuala Lumpur. The Firm is the only Malaysian law firm to be invited to join the World Law Group.

2001-2000
Dato’ V. L. Kandan, S. Woodhull, V. T. Nathan, Dato’ Rahmat Jamari, and Wilfred Abraham retire from the partnership. Eleven assistants are admitted to the partnership. It is the largest number of partners to be admitted at any one time.

1997
The Firm outgrows the Benteng building and moves to its present premises at Wisma Hamzah-Kwong Hing, No. 1 Leboh Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

1988
Shearn Delamore & Co. closes its Seremban office.

1982
A branch office is set up on the island of Penang.


1963 - 1953

1963
Malaysia is formed, comprising the states of the Malay Peninsula, the states of Sabah and Sarawak on the island of Borneo, and, briefly, Singapore.

1961-1960
Chan Hua Eng and Mahadev Shankar were the first Malayans to be admitted to Shearn Delamore & Co.

1959
Shearn, Delamore & Co. moves to No. 2 Benteng, Kuala Lumpur.

1957
Malaya gains independence from the British.

1955
Shearn, Delamore & Co. moves to the Barlow Building, Ampang Road.

1953
Shearn, Delamore & Co. amalgamates with Drew & Napier and commences practice at the Oriental Building, Malacca Street.


1947 - 1922

1947
The Malayan Bar Council is established.

1946
Shearn, Delamore & Co. reopens. It also opens an office in Seremban.

1945-1941
The firm’s practice is temporarily disrupted because of the Second World War and the Japanese Occupation of Malaya.

1940
Shearn, Delamore & Co. moves to No. 66 Ampang Road, Kuala Lumpur.

1938
Pooley & Co. and Ford & Delamore merge to become Shearn, Delamore & Co. at No. 68 Klyne Street, Kuala Lumpur.

1922
E. D. Shearn becomes a partner in Pooley & Co.
P. B. Ford and A. W. Delamore become partners and Ford & Delamore is formed.
It opens a branch office at No. 60 Klyne Street, Kuala Lumpur.


1921 - 1896

1921
E. D. Shearn joins Pooley & Co. as an assistant.

1920
A. W. Delamore joins Ford & Co. as an assistant.

1916
Pooley & Co. moves to No. 68 Klyne Street.
P. B. Ford leaves Pooley & Co. and establishes his own practice at No. 22 Station Street, Klang.

1911
P. B. Ford joins Pooley & Co. as an assistant.

1905
Pooley & Co. is formed in Kuala Lumpur at No. 74 Klyne Street.

1896
The Federated Malay States is established under British rule and professional lawyers are first allowed to appear as advocates and solicitors.
